Did you know that pneumatic drills can be very handy tools around the house?

Whether you’re installing a new curtain rod, making a bookcase or punching some holes into your wall for some new wiring, having a drill can make the job much easier, more so if you have a pneumatic drill.

I have never worked in construction but I do like to build things around the house, which is why I find my pneumatic drill such a great help. I have tried several models over the years, and have put up this site to help you find one that will match your needs just right.

Pneumatic DrillsTypes of Drills

In order to understand how pneumatic drills work, let us first take a look at the different types of drills available.

The most common types are:

- Manual
- Electric
- Cordless
- Pneumatic

The manually operated drill, the oldest in existence, is the most affordable type of drill, though it also requires the most effort from you.

An electric drill has an electric motor and needs to be plugged into an outlet for it to work.

A cordless drill, the latest available, runs on a rechargeable battery and a special type of fuel cell. It is the lightest and most convenient but is often not suitable for heavy duty applications.

A pneumatic drill can drill holes into a variety of materials or fasten them together just like any other drill, but it is powered by compressed air, which is why it is sometimes called an air drill.

Sometimes, a pneumatic drill is also called a jackhammer since a lot of them have the power of both a hammer and a chisel, making them even more useful. There is also a pneumatic hammer drill which employs hammering action to drill tough materials more efficiently.

Like all other pneumatic tools, pneumatic drills need to be connected to an air compressor, which is sold separately. These air compressors are the ones that convert regular air from the atmosphere into pressurized air, storing them in a tank. Once the correct pressure level is met, the compressor delivers the air to the tool, which allows it to operate continuously and efficiently.

Pros And Cons of Pneumatic Drills

Pneumatic drills have a number of advantages over other types of drills, the main one being power. Indeed, pneumatic tools are the ultimate power tools, able to deliver the power required for large, continuous and heavy duty jobs.

They can do the job very quickly, too, so you can get projects done in half the time. They are very durable, as well, so as long as you’re happy with the model you’re using, you can keep doing so for many years.

These advantages more than make up for the disadvantages, which include the fact that they can be more dangerous than other types and that they can take a little more effort to maintain.

As for the cost, pneumatic drills may not be as expensive as electric ones but you have to keep in mind that you will need to pay for an air compressor as well. Then again, air compressors can also be used for other applications so purchasing one should be worthwhile.
